In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The opening ceremony of the tunnel which measures 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and the Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) as well as a plethora of cyclists.

I encourage all cyclists to come and take a ride along the new, well-maintained and modern route which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 to the project. The project was executed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

In the 1990s in the 1990s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to transfer the main sewer line of Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is currently used for infrastructure purposes and also houses the fifth water line which is operated to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.

Road construction and installation, as well as blowers, modern safety systems , and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the present work. The tunnel is safe for the people to use all entire year.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites - including the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium, as well as the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
